Just One Thing…

Every day…

No matter who you are, no matter where you live, no matter what you believe, no matter what you do for a living…
Every day you are presented with opportunities to improve your present standing.
Whether it’s your standing spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, financially…
Every day you are given an opportunity to improve your situation.

I say that with confidence because you can read this right now.
The very fact that you are able to see and read my blog…
The very fact that at this very moment, you are a living and breathing human being means you have an opportunity right now to improve your life; to make your life better, to make your situation better.

And so I have one question for you: What will you do with the gift, this precious gift…
This opportunity to improve your life right now?

I know… You’ve got a lot of things you want to do
You’ve got a lot of ideas you want to bring to life.

I know… You’ve got some places you want to go.
You’ve got some people you want to see.
You’ve got some things you want to do

You want to get that promotion.
You want to start that new business.
You want to sign that new client.

You want to take that trip to the tropics.
You want to take your children to Disney World.
You want to see the mountains from the top down.
You want to see the ocean from the bottom up.

Why is it that we’ve got all these things…
We’ve got all these ideas…

All these things we want to do…
All these things we want to be…
All these things we want to have…

But never take action…
But we never actually DO anything!?!?

Let me say it differently:
Why is it that you pray to God, asking for all sorts of blessings
And yet it seems that you never receive the blessings you ask for?

I think I know why
I think I know what the reason is
I think I know why we talk about these things

We think about these things…
We read about these things…
We even pray about these things…
And yet day after day, we find ourselves in the same situation.

It’s because we don’t have faith.
We don’t appreciate the gifts that we have been given.

You may, respectfully, disagree with me, but I know I’m right.

Why?

Because if we appreciated the gifts that we already have we would do things differently.
If we had faith, we would live our lives differently.

You see, Appreciation is a demonstration,
And Faith takes action.

If we had Faith and Appreciation, we would DO things differently.

Let’s start here: If we had Faith and Appreciation, we would DO.

We would take action.
We would do more than think about things.
We would do more than read about things.
We would do more than talk about things.
We would do more than pray about things.

If we had Faith and Appreciation,
We Would Take Action.

I’ve said it before, I believe Faith and true Appreciation are very similar, if not one and the same.
You see, Appreciation is making the most of the gifts that you have been given.
I also believe, that Faith is making the most of the Gift that you have been given.
Let’s get clear on this one thing “making the most” requires that you take action.

My Mother saw me wearing the leather jacket that she had given me the year before.
Not only did I accept and acknowledge the gift…
Not only did I take OWNership of the jacket
I also ADMITted that the jacket was mine, both in my home, and out in the streets (school, work, etc)
Not only did I ADMIT that the jacket was mine
I also QUIT using my old, less effective, less attractive jacket.
I QUIT walking out of the house looking and acting less gifted than I was.

The gifts that we have been given, have been given with the intent that they would change our lives.
And that with our changed lives we would change the world

You can’t change the world if you don’t take action.

If you don’t put your hand to the plow, the seeds that you have sown will never grow.
And you think the things you have to do are the hard things.
In the grand scheme of things, what you have do is the small part.

Think about it… the Sun and the Rain that causes the seed to sprout, take root, and grow.
Are you responsible for making the sun shine, and the rain fall?
No.

Your job is to move stuff out the way.
Move the dirt out of the way.
Move the weeds out of the way.
Sometimes your only job is to get out of the way.

The scriptures remind us that someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”

Faith and Appreciation require us to act.

So my challenge to you today is: Show me your faith by what you do.

Who is it that you say you are?
What is it that you want to do?
Where is it that you want to go?

Today, take action to make that happen.
Today, do something you’ve never done.
Today, do one thing that will put you one step closer.
Today, do one thing to show that your appreciation.
Today, do one thing to show your faith.
